Publisher's summary

My new neighbor is a firefighter - and a scorching-hot single dad - but I swear I didn’t set off that smoke alarm on purpose.

(And I was beyond mortified when he rushed in and saw me naked.)

Nothing happened, of course - because I, Winnie MacAllister, romance junkie and owner of a constantly broken heart, have sworn off men for one solid year. Even protective men with chiseled jaws, bulging biceps, and deep brown eyes that make my breath come faster. Even former SEALs with broad chests and strong hands that make my skin sizzle. Even gorgeous, grumpy guys who have their hands full raising two adorable little girls and claim they don’t believe in love.

Until Dex kisses me one night, and I drop all my defenses.

(Also my underwear.)

He says he’s not gentle, and he’s right. He says I should take the dream job I’m offered in another state, and he’s right. He says he’s too old for me and could never be the man I deserve.

He’s wrong.

Dex and I might be 12 years apart, but the fire between us is the kind that will never burn out.

How can I convince him to give happily-ever-after with me a chance?

Single Dad, Age Gap Romance

There were plenty of similarities between Makes Me Yours and Ignite (single dad, age gap romance, hero intent on keeping things casual, heroine having a close relationship with the kids) but even so, that didn't stop me from being totally invested. This grumpy-sunshine romance (because Dex could really be a grump) had me so hooked. Divorced dad Dex was a firefighter who adored his two girls and was so present in their lives. When he moved into a new condo, the girls immediately latched on to their next door neighbor, Winnie. The attraction between Dex and Winnie was instant and when they agreed to a casual fling, well, the sparks were flying!

Naturally, feelings got involved and when things got serious, Dex pulled away and encouraged Winnie to accept a job offer out of state. Again (like in Make Me Yours), I wanted to shake some sense into him, but I did understand. Issues with his father who walked out when he was a child, and the breakdown of his marriage, had left Dex dealing with a lot of self-doubt. Dex's girls, Luna and Hallie, were total stars and provided so much comic relief. Loved them! I admit, I was pretty emotional by the end and Harlow managed to get a few tears out of me.

Single dad Story

This is a single dad romance. It's an entertaining story the single dad is extremely grumpy. its age gap. I always love the creative way the authors have the children do different scenes. The narrators did an excellent job of bringing the characters to life.

Fantastic Listen!!!

I absolutely love Melanie Harlow’s writing. She writes the best grumpy alpha males with the sweet well-rounded heroines.
Dex and Winnie are complete opposites. The broody single dad firefighter and the young care-free sweetheart.
After a bad divorce, Dex doesn’t want to give anyone the opportunity to hurt him again and Winnie has struggled with wanting to find love her whole life. When Winnie makes a vow to refrain from relationships, hooking up with her sexy neighbor seems like just the key. No strings attached for either of them and no I love yous!
But when Winnie catches feelings like she’s been known to do, will Dex be her true happily ever after or just another disappointment?
I loved these two!!! This was a spicy sweet romance with so many feels!!

I loved the connection between the two and how at the end of the night they would say “I don’t love you” just to prove there was no catching feelings. But when feelings start to change, those four words become impossible to say.

Highly recommend this book!!
Stephen Dexter and Kristen Leigh did a fabulous job narrating!

What a great story!

I have to admit that when certain authors announced they have a book coming soon, I can’t contain my excitement. Melanie Harlow is one of those authors, let me tell you, Ignite is worthy of your time. It’s full of heart, great banters and conversations, two adorable little girls, a grumpy hot firefighter, a lovable heroine and a cat named Piglet, I mean how cute is that? The book has me laughing and crying at the same time, I have to admit that Hallie and Luna make the book that much more fun. Sexy Dexy gives a new meaning to the term grumpy and if I’m being honest I always love the way author Melanie writes her grumpy heroes and makes me fall head over heels for them. Ignite is a memorable love story that will tug at your heart Strings.

Fun and no millionaire

My sister in laws laughed at me when I said I listened to these types of books and they asked “why is it always a girl and a millionaire?” Well this was just a normal guy and I loved it.

The narrators were good except the guy did pronounce Traverse City incorrectly but that ok. His voice sounded like the Beast in Beauty and the Beast. So he did fit the part :-).

Cute

Cute story, not especially hot but not everyone wants that 😊

Narration is great and so is the writing. Length of story was perfect.

The main characters are great together and the plot isn’t overdone - different from a typical love story. Cute overall.

So sweet

I’m not going to say it was the best romance ever.
But it was a nice break from the usual stuff in romance these days. Loved the daddy character and also loved her. I laughed out-loud many times and found myself smiling. If a book gives me this kind of feelings its good in my eyes (and ears). Performance by the narrators was amazing, the girls where amazingly funny in both voices! Well done !!

Not Tempted to skip ahead!

First book in a long time that I haven’t skipped ahead. Story kept me interested enough to keep me from skipping chapters. Loved the commitment Dex had to his daughters but was a little annoyed that he took so long to let Winnie into his heart and was a bit mean about it. But was surprised that when he did it was still very realistic. I figured that author Melanie Harlow would take the easy way out and have him instantly change his mind. Well done! I also appreciated she didn’t include any fake encounters with strange women falling all over him. I mean how real is it when strange women go up to a handsome man and start touching him uncontrollably. Which this story did NOT have, thank you very much!
